The wireless industry is emerging as a dominant force in communications systems. Wireless systems once thought to peak at 25% penetration have a well-defined market opportunity. User penetration is expected exceed 90% of the population in developed regions.

The number of wireless subscribers at 541.8 million in the end of 2000 is forecast to reach 1.8 billion by 2006. Infrastructure spending will increase disproportionately to subscriber growth as companies seek to achieve broad systems coverage.

Wireless data markets will grow very slowly until there is broad systems coverage and calls are not constantly interrupted.
